3 hospitalized,100 evacuated following chlorine gas leakage in Nainital

Three people were hospitalized and 100 others evacuated to safer places following leakage of chlorine gas near Sukhatal area in the hill resort of Nainital in Uttarakhand on Thursday.

Top officials said the condition of all the three people was stable.

On receiving information about the gas leak, an SDRF team led by Inspector Rajesh Joshi immediately rushed to Sukhatal with CBRN kits and other rescue equipment.

On reaching the spot, it was found that a chlorine gas cylinder of one quintal liter was kept in Sukhatal Pump House, in which gas was leaking from the nozzle.

SDRF team and local administration evacuated people from the surrounding areas and sent them to a safer places. With the joint efforts of SDRF and NDRF personnel, the chlorine gas cylinder was removed and disposed of.
