Continuing its protest against the construction of a replica of Kedaranth shrine in Delhi, Uttarakhand Congress on Wednesday began on a 10-day march from the holy city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand on the issue, a move decried by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Led by state party chief Karan Mahara, a host of senior party leaders including the leader of the opposition Yashpal Arya and former chief miniter Harish Rawat participated in the march which began from Har-Ki-Pauri in Haridwar.

Earlier in the morning, the Congress leaders also performed puja at Har-Ki-Pauri and later raised slogans against the state government for allegedly supporting the construction of Kedarnath replica in Delhi.

“The main aim of the yatra from Haridwar to Kedarnath is to safeguard the interests of Uttarakhand,” said party state vice president Suryakant Dhasmana.

The padyatra would conclude in Kedarnath on August 3, said Mahara.

Congress has been vehemently opposing the proposed construction of a replica of Kedarnath at Burari in Delhi ever since Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony held in the national capital earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dhami visited the Kedarnath shrine to perform puja in the temple and inspected the reconstruction works there.

Later, the Chief Minister slammed Congress for taking out the march on Kedarnath issue describing it as “farce”. “It is a big surprise that people (Congress) who continuously abuse Sanatan Dharam are taking out march on Kedarnath issue,” the Chief Minister said.

Later Mahara on X said BJP leaders and Chief Minister Dhami are continuously violating the sacred traditions and sanctity of Baba Kedarnath Dham.  To “expose the lies and hypocrisy” of the Chief Minister along with the BJP and to maintain the sanctity of Shri Kedarnath temple, the State Congress today organized Shri Kedarnath Dham Pratishtha Raksha Yatra along with holy dip in Ganga and puja, he said.
